    This is a call for expressions of interest from people with a lived experience of mental health issues who wish to gain national qualifications in the area of Mental Health Peer Work. (see attachment for further information about the qualification). 

    This course has been designed for people with a lived experience of mental illness (as a consumer or carer) who want to work or volunteer within the mental health sector. Learn how to guide and provide advice to aid people in their journey of recovery from mental illness.

    Expand your skills in mental health with this mid-level qualification. Growth in the mental health workforce is strong, with the Australian Government expecting to see more than 50,000 job openings in the sector over the next five years.

    In this course you can choose to specialise in either consumer peer work or carer peer work. In both specialisations you'll develop communication skills, learn how to work with a diverse range of people, and gain experience working within the recovery framework. Our highly-experienced team of industry professionals will give you the one-on-one guidance needed to succeed in the industry.

    Upon completion of this course you will be qualified to work in a range of residential, outreach, and peer support programs as a mental health peer worker.

    This scholarship program is in partnership with Brisbane North PHN, Peer Participation in Mental Health Services (PPIMS) Network and TAFE QLD – East Coast.  Eligibility Criteria will apply.

    Please see TAFE QLD subsidies for further information.  If eligible student contribution costs will be covered by the scholarship.

    Brisbane North PHN is committed to people with a lived experience leading change (BN Regional Plan) and building and supporting capacity to actively participate in partnership with mental health reforms.

    Over the last three years through our Peer Participation in Mental Health Services (PPIMS) Network we have been able to negotiate a number of scholarships and professional development opportunities. 

    This year we are pleased to be able to a number of scholarships to attend the upcoming TheMHS Conference being held in Brisbane 28-30 August. 

    Applications are welcome from any active PPIMS members and/or who work within the Brisbane North region within the primary health care and non-government sector in lived experience roles.  Priority will be given to those who hold a concession card and/or might not be able to financially afford to attend.

    Applicants must be able to attend all three days.  The scholarships is for registration only.  All other associated costs must be met by the successful applicants (eg., travel, parking etc).

    Expressions of Interest close 9am Monday 15 July 2019.  Successful applicants will be notified by the 19th July 2019.

    Brisbane North PHN is committed to people with a lived experience leading change (Brisbane North Regional Plan) and building and supporting the lived experience workforce in our region.  From 2019 the Department of Health have also developed some guidelines for PHN’s and the services they commission to actively build the workforce.

    Over the last three years we have been able to offer scholarships to attend the Peer Dialogue conference in Brisbane on 8-9 May 2019 (Wednesday & Thursday). 

    This year we are pleased to be able to offer 10 scholarships to attend (registration fee $380). 

    Applications are welcome from any lived experience workers (volunteers or employees) who work within the Brisbane North region within the primary healthcare and non-government sector.

    Applicants must be able to attend both days.

    Expressions of Interest close at 9.00 am on Monday 15 April.  

    Successful applicants will be notified by 19 April.
