Language Guide to Address Ageism

This activity is to develop an anti-ageism language guide in partnership with the EveryAGE Counts Campaign hosted by the Benevolent Society.

The aim of the anti-ageism language guide is to provide the aged care sector with a resource to encourage the positive use of language.

Further, to positively contribute to shift the subtle but ingrained social norms and views around ageing through better use of language – if we change the way we talk about ageing, we can slowly change the way we think about and respond to ageing.

The Language Guide to Address Ageism is a joint initiative of the healthy@home consortium, Brisbane North PHN and The Benevolent Society.

The aim of this guide is to increase awareness on the impact that language can have on older people and how language can be a form of ageism.

The guide has been developed as a resource for people working in the aged care sector and includes suggestions on how staff can be more considerate of their language to work towards ageism being removed from the sector.

Brisbane North PHN are seeking feedback from the aged care sector on the draft version of the Language Guide to Address Ageism
