Moreton Bay Collective Impact Approach Advisory Committee
For many years, the recognition of the high level of need in areas of Moreton Bay has resulted in increased services being set up to support the community (including programs, networks, community groups and organisations). Whilst this increased focus on the needs of Moreton Bay is both important and warranted, there are gaps and overlaps in service delivery and collaborative efforts, and there remain opportunities to improve coordination and linkages between different initiatives.
Throughout 2019 to 2021, the Health Alliance (a joint initiative between Brisbane North PHN and Metro North Health) has partnered with collaborative groups (including the Moreton Bay Children’s Partnership Group) to conduct some early background research and environmental scanning around the viability and desire for a place-based collective impact initiative for Moreton Bay; similar to that in the Logan region. The ‘Logan Together’ initiative is ongoing and has produced tangible benefits for the health and well-being of children families and the broader community.
A collective impact approach involves shared goals through integrating health, educational, social and other services to strengthen the community as a whole, as well as a target population of children and families. More than just a new way of collaborating, Collective Impact is a progressive, staged approach to problem-solving that requires multiple organisations and communities from different sectors to align with a shared agenda and mutually reinforcing activities. A shared initiative would also reduce overlap in service provision, determine key funding priorities and reduce gaps in services and care within Moreton Bay.
The Joint Board Committee of the Health Alliance has recognised the opportunity for this approach and has facilitated a project to begin a pre Collective Impact project in the region. The purpose of this project, through research and community consultation, is to recommend a structure/model and a way forward as well as a business case for a Collective Impact activity in the Moreton Bay region.
The Health Alliance recently put out a Request for Proposal for organisations and consultants to provide a plan to do this work. After a very competitive tendering process which involved assessment of proposals, interviews and presentations, the organisation – yourtown - was selected to do the project.
