Managing Hostility in General Practice:Minimising the incidence, intensity, and impact for frontline workers in healthcare
General Practice staff have reported experiencing increased levels of hostility in the workplace, leading to distress and fear of injury.
This hostility can range from low level uncivil behaviours and verbal abuse to verbal aggression and physical violence.
Griffith University’s RISE Research team has developed a program for practice staff which has been adapted to address the impact of COVID-19 on the prevalence of hostile behaviour.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The training will be tailored to meet the needs of local general practice staff and aims to provide participants with:
understanding of consumer hostility and potential triggers
practical skills and strategies to reduce the intensity and prevent escalation of incidents
resilience building skills and strategies to assist employees following experiences of hostility.
DATES and TIMES:
To be advised: most likely the last 2 weeks of June 2022
DELIVERY:
Session 1 - Face to Face session for Practice Managers/supervisors and reception staff (3 hours)
understanding, preventing, containing and coping with consumer hostility
Please note - numbers are limited to 60 people.
Session 2* - Online Masterclass for Practice Managers/supervisors (2 hours)
understanding consumer hostility and supporting staff
*Session 1 is a pre-requisite for this Masterclass
