PCQ Webinar: LGBTQI+ Inclusive Palliative Care: Creating Safe, Affirming Care at End of Life (22 July)
[From PCQ]
Join us on Wednesday 22 July 2026, for our education webinar titled “LGBTQI+ Inclusive Palliative Care: Creating Safe, Affirming Care at End of Life”.
Keynote speaker Dr Ashwin Kaniah, Palliative Medicine Staff Specialist, Redcliffe Hospital, will lead this insightful webinar exploring the unique experiences, barriers, and support needs of LGBTQI+ people accessing palliative and end-of-life care. Participants will examine the impact of discrimination and assumptions on care experiences and learn practical, evidence-informed strategies for creating inclusive, affirming, and culturally humble care environments.
Through real-world examples, the session will build confidence in supporting LGBTQI+ individuals and their biological and chosen families with compassion, dignity, and respect. It will also consider an important question for all health professionals: How can we ensure that every person feels seen, respected, and supported when facing serious illness, dying, death, and grief?
We believe that palliative care is everybody’s business, and we aim to build compassionate communities around people and their families experiencing serious illness, dying, death and grief. This webinar is designed for all members of the community including both health and non-health related workers (i.e., healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, social workers, allied health staff, health administrative staff, spiritual care workers, health managers, health educators, pharmacists and paramedics). We also encourage people from diverse backgrounds to attend. These webinars are sponsored by Queensland Health and supported by Queensland Ambulance Service.
